Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 1 Surges Back Into the U.S. Bestseller Spotlight

Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 1 Surges Back Into the U.S. Bestseller Spotlight

--

RAVE OTONITY – Jujutsu Kaisen continues to demonstrate its remarkable staying power in the United States. In the July 2026 Circana BookScan ranking for adult graphic novels, the series’ first volume secured second place, placing it just behind Dungeon Crawler Carl Vol. 1. The ranking covers sales recorded between July 5 and August 1, 2026.

What makes the result particularly interesting is that Volume 1 is not a recent release. Its return to such a high position suggests that interest in the supernatural series remains strong even after its manga story reached its conclusion. The same chart also featured several other volumes from Gege Akutami’s work, demonstrating the franchise’s continued presence in the American market.

The July ranking contained seven Jujutsu Kaisen volumes, with Volume 1 leading the franchise’s entries. Volume 30, which concludes the main manga series, occupied fourth place, while Volume 29 followed at sixth. This combination of the opening and closing volumes indicates that both newcomers and long-time readers are continuing to purchase the series.

The performance of the first volume is especially significant because it can serve as an entry point for people discovering the franchise. Readers who became interested through the anime may choose to start the original manga from the beginning, potentially explaining why an older introductory volume can compete with much newer releases.

The anime adaptation appears to remain an important factor behind the franchise’s visibility. Earlier Circana data also showed strong performances from multiple Jujutsu Kaisen volumes, with the series maintaining a substantial presence on the U.S. adult graphic novel chart. Season 3 of the anime premiered in January 2026, giving the property another major boost in exposure.

The July results also reveal how strongly VIZ Media dominates the American manga market. Fourteen of the 20 titles on the separate Top 20 manga graphic novel chart were Shonen Jump releases from VIZ Media, while eight positions belonged to Jujutsu Kaisen. Volume 1 ranked first on that manga-specific list, while Volume 30 came in second.

The franchise’s performance is not entirely new. In May 2026, Volume 30 topped the adult graphic novel ranking, while Volume 1 also reached third place. This demonstrates that the series had already been attracting both established fans and readers entering the story for the first time.

Another interesting factor is the contrast between the sales positions of the beginning and ending volumes. Volume 30 represents the conclusion of the main storyline, whereas Volume 1 introduces readers to Yuji Itadori and the world of cursed spirits. The strong performance of both books highlights the enduring appeal of the complete Jujutsu Kaisen journey.

The July figures therefore paint a picture of a franchise that remains commercially powerful despite the completion of its main manga. Rather than disappearing after the conclusion, Jujutsu Kaisen continues to attract attention through its anime, collected volumes and expanding franchise activity. Its ability to place an introductory volume near the top of the U.S. market is a strong indication of continued reader interest.

What Is Anime?

Anime is the term commonly used for Japanese animated productions. The medium encompasses an enormous variety of genres, including action, fantasy, romance, comedy, science fiction and horror, with works created for children, teenagers and adults.

Unlike the assumption that animation is exclusively intended for younger audiences, anime can explore complex themes, mature conflicts and elaborate fictional worlds. Television series, theatrical films and streaming productions have all contributed to the global popularity of Japanese animation.

Jujutsu Kaisen is one example of a manga franchise that gained an enormous international audience after receiving an anime adaptation. The animated series helped introduce its characters and supernatural world to viewers around the globe, while the original manga continues to attract readers in the United States. The strong July 2026 BookScan performance of Volume 1 shows that the franchise still has considerable influence in the English-language market.
