The Pokémon anime is a relic from an era when certain series produced new episodes endlessly. Between 1997 and 2013, Pokémon released new episodes weekly—even during transitions between series, such as the shift from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Z. Production quality has improved significantly in recent years, even if the writing quality has fluctuated (though it often reached excellent heights).

However, adopting a seasonal format for Generation 10 will likely result in tighter, more concise storytelling. By focusing on the main storyline, trimming the filler, and enhancing the art direction and animation—combined with the generally higher quality of the latest generation of the anime—Winds and Waves could well be considered the series' best season yet.
