Orbitals Switch 2's Video Features an ‘80s Anime-Style Concept, Sparking Fans’ Curiosity!

RAVE OTN - Nintendo and Shapefarm have released an official "Creator's Voice" video discussing the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive game, Orbitals, and the creation of its 1980s-inspired anime art style.
Creative Director Marcos Ramos, Lead Animator Hidetoshi Yoshida, and Game Director Jakob Lundgren discuss various elements of the game's development and its art direction.

Marcos Ramos begins by recounting how the team decided to "make an anime game" at the start of Orbitals' development, noting his own childhood spent watching "basically a lot of the 80s cartoons we all watched growing up."
Ramos highlights the team's nostalgia for that specific aesthetic, particularly referencing elements like line art.
Lead Animator Hidetoshi Yoshida mentions his more than 40 years in the industry and his history of creating hand-drawn art. Discussing the anime approach used in Orbitals, Yoshida notes,
"Ultimately, if the characters themselves aren't compelling, the entire work won't be either; that’s why I focused on acting, including facial expressions."

He also points out that the game employs specific color palettes, styles, and timing techniques characteristic of the genre.
