The Release Date of Toy Story 5 The Movie in Disney+
Disney and Pixar have officially announced when Toy Story 5 will arrive on Disney+, giving fans a confirmed date to watch Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of Bonnie’s toys from home.
The fifth installment in Pixar’s long-running animated franchise will begin streaming on September 23, 2026, following its successful theatrical run earlier this year. The movie premiered in cinemas in June and has reportedly earned more than $1.1 billion worldwide, making it one of the major box office performers of 2026.
The Disney+ release will bring back several of the franchise’s familiar voice actors, including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie. The new movie also introduces Greta Lee, who voices Lilypad, a tablet device that becomes central to the story.
Directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 puts the toys in a situation unlike the conflicts seen in previous installments. Rather than facing a traditional villain, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and their friends must deal with the growing influence of technology in Bonnie’s life.
The Disney+ debut will also add the latest installment to the platform's existing Toy Story collection. According to Disney, the franchise's films have accumulated more than 2 billion hours of streaming globally on Disney+, reflecting the continued popularity of the series decades after the original movie was released.
Toy Story 5 (2026) Summary
Toy Story 5 takes place three years after the events of the fourth movie. Bonnie is now eight years old and is entering a new phase in her life. One day, she receives a frog-themed tablet named Lilypad, affectionately known as Lily.
Ever since she got that tablet, Bonnie has been spending more and more time in the digital world. She no longer has time to play with her favorite toys. This situation has started to worry Jessie, who has now become the leader of the toy group following Woody’s departure.
Jessie tried to explain to Lily that her presence had affected Bonnie’s social life. However, Lily felt she had done her part. The differing perspectives on traditional toys and modern technology then sparked the film’s main conflict.
As the conflict escalated, Jessie reached out to Woody, who was now living a new life with Bo Peep. Woody finally decided to return to help his old friends.
Meanwhile, Bonnie began trying to make new friends and adjust to her social environment. These efforts ended up dragging the toys into an even bigger adventure.
Jessie got separated from her group and accidentally ended up in a place filled with forgotten toys. There, she met a number of unique new characters, including several pieces of technology, each with its own distinct personality.
